Raveena Tandon was one of the top actresses of Bollywood in the 90s. ‘Mohra’ was her hit film, although when she signed the film, she was not such a big star. In fact, she was not even the first choice for the film ‘Mohra’. Before her, many big actresses had rejected the film.
Divya Bharti was the first choice
The film’s co-screenplay writer Shabbir Boxwala had told in an interview that Mohra was first shot with Divya Bharti. The makers shot for a few days but then she passed away due to which recasting had to be done.
Divya Bharti died under suspicious circumstances in 1993.
Shabbir said that Sridevi was a big star of that time. When she was approached for the film, she refused because the lead hero of the film Akshay Kumar was not that big a star then. After her refusal, Shabbir suggested the name of Aishwarya Rai to director Rajiv Rai, who had not even stepped into films at that time.
Shabbir said, ‘Actually I had seen some pictures of Aishwarya and I liked them very much. Rajiv asked me to call Aishwarya. When I talked to Aishwarya, she refused to work in the film because she was busy preparing for Miss World.

Raveena had a problem with whom
When no actress agreed, the makers finally offered the role to Raveena Tandon. Initially, she too was not ready for it because she had a problem with kissing Akshay Kumar in a song of the film ‘Tip Tip Barsa Paani’.
Shabbir further said, ‘Raveena wanted to do the film but she was afraid of what her father would think. When she told this to Rajiv, he jokingly told Raveena – don’t show this film to your father.’
The action thriller film ‘Mohra’ was released on 1 July 1994. It proved to be a blockbuster and after this Akshay Kumar became a big star. The songs of the film ‘Tu Cheez Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast’ and ‘Tip Tip Barsa Paani’ became very popular.
