Mookuthi Amman was initially scheduled to hit the silver screen on May 8, 2020. However, due to the unforeseen circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, the film’s theatrical release was put on hold. Making a unique move, the makers opted for a direct-to-digital release. On November 14, 2020, during the festive occasion of Diwali, the film premiered exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar. Its Telugu-dubbed version, titled “Ammoru Thalli,” was also released simultaneously.
Story and Plot
Mookuthi Amman is a delightful blend of comedy and fantasy that revolves around the life of Ramasamy, a struggling journalist played by RJ Balaji. Hailing from a middle-class family, Ramasamy faces financial challenges alongside his mother and three sisters. Their lives take an unexpected turn when the divine Goddess Mookuthi Amman, portrayed by the captivating Nayanthara, enters their world.
The plot unfolds as Ramasamy and Mookuthi Amman embark on a journey to expose a fraudulent godman. Together, they form an unlikely duo, combining the journalist’s investigative skills with the goddess’s divine powers. The film is a satirical take on religious beliefs and superstitions, laced with humor and witty dialogues.
